The Orthodox parish of St. Nicolas in Szczecin

The Orthodox parish in Szczecin was founded in 1946. In years 1962-2007 church services were celebrated in a building on Wawrzyniaka Street. As it could not meet the needs of the growing congregation, in 2004 the parish began the construction of a new church building.

On 17th September 2012 the ceremony of consecration of the new Orthodox church in Szczecin took place. It was held in the presence of Metropolitan Sawa, the head of the Polish Orthodox Church, assisted by Archbishop Jeremiasz, the head of Wrocławsko-Szczecińska Diocese, as well as other archbishops and bishops of the Orthodox Church, the clergy and the faithful of the parish. The new church has two altars dedicated to St Nicolas of Myrra and to All Saints.

Since May 2012 the church is home to two copies of miraculous icons from the Holy Mountain (Greece): “Portaitissa” and St Nicolas from I.K. Burazeri.

The parish runs a church school which aims at providing Orthodox religious instruction to children and youth. Every month meetings of the Orthodox Association in Szczecin take place. The Association is involved in various charitable activities, organizing lectures, pilgrimages and excursions for the parish members.
